Olympic Rings

I don’t know about you, but I love the Olympics. It started in 1996 when the Olympics were in Atlanta, while I lived there. It was the best time to be living in that city. And ever since then, J and I have loved to watch the Olympics when they are on. For each season, winter or summer, we have sports that we like to watch better than others, and certain ones that one of us likes more than the other (ahem, I love gymnastics and ice skating, J could care less). But what we also do during the Olympics, is that we will watch ANY sport as long as it is on during the two-week Olympics window. We will even watch games or matches between other countries - because it’s the Olympics.

So far for the 2008 Olympics, after watching most of the Olympic ceremony (what? I can’t watch it all - my brats get up at the crack of dawn!), we’ve watched some indoor volleyball, some boxing (wha?), some handball (another wha??) and some of the rowing events. I really have no interest in any of the above, have never even heard of Handball (J had, and you can find out more here, thank me later) until today. But I enjoy it because it is a chance to watch sports that I may not normally watch, support the US (no matter what if the US is competing we tend to watch), and support the Olympics. I love seeing the spirit of all the crowds and athletes, too.

Oh and don’t get me started on the commercials during the Olympics! Anyone else love the ones for Visa with Morgan Freeman and the current Home Depot one? Love, I think they should be broadcast in all war zones.

So what about you? Love or hate the Olympics?

We love them too! I was lucky enough to work the 96 Olympics for Bellsouth (and got paid!) and have been in love with watching them and what all is happening ever since. It’s so amazing to hear our national anthem played when the US wins, but it’s also so cool to hear about all of the different people from all of the different countries and their stories as well.

I usually cry (I’m such a girl) and Blake rolls his eyes, but we do enjoy watching them instead of some other mindless crap that’s playing. We love the swimming, gymnastics, basketball and other sports infact just about all of them.

Glad you guys like them too. Yet another thing we have in common. Add it to the list ; )
