So, if you have been following along, you know we’ve been finishing the basement to be a UGA family room. I didn’t want it to be an overwhelming college game day room, I just wanted touches of UGA in the room to make it a fun, laid back, type of space.
We painted the space red and gray and added a slightly darker shade of gray carpet. All baseboards, doors and ceiling are white.
To help ground the space, I wanted a dark and comfy sectional sofa. Because of room size and constraints of getting pieces that could fit down the the stairs we had to get creative with that idea.
We found our sofa here. What I like about these pieces is that they are comfy and casual. Also we can add or take away pieces as we want or need. I love this idea.
I found this UGA blanket while we were visiting Athens earlier this summer and I loved how they made it patchwork with a bunch of different t-shirts. I knew that I had a bunch of t-shirts from when C and R were babies and I thought it would be fun if I could put them in the room. At first I thought I would frame and hang them, but once I found the blanket, I knew I wanted to make patchwork pillows to go in the room. Luckily, I have the best Mom, who is also crafty with a needle and thread. She liked my idea and really brought it to life by making these pillows for me. I love that some of J’s favorite t-shirts and onesies from when the kids were little are now a part of this room.
J and I had a ball last night looking at the pillows and naming who wore what t-shirt or onesie piece and when. It was exactly what I wanted for this fun room.
And, yes, there is a bit of UK Blue in the room, like I promised. I have always loved this t-shirt and I knew this would be a good one to bring into the room.
I’ll let you see if you can find my BLUE! Thanks again mom for helping me with the pillows and for not thinking my idea was to crazy! We love it. Now I just need to get the wall art up and the room will be DONE!
If I do say so myself– the pillows look GREAT!!! yea….. the room is wonderful you guys– you have done a really sweet job on the whole thing! I can not wait to see it in person- love you-Mom
