We have been thinking that we needed to get R into a big boy bed. He was getting to long for the crib, and I didn’t really like the way that the crib looked when we took the side off. We looked for a matching bed to the one we had got for C, but it has been discontinued and I was not in love with it anyway. Most of the beds I liked are so expensive! Also, I didn’t want to just throw another bed into their room – I am tired of our house looking like a thrown together college apartment! We also started talking bunk-beds, but I just feel like C is a bit too young yet for us to do that. I felt like
we, umm, J would be up every night helping him up and down from the bed….so when I saw this great idea over at Design Mom where she built two toddler beds – I thought that this could be a great idea for the boys room, just expanded for twin beds. Hey what can I say, I have two tall boys and I wanted something that would last for a bit at least!
So J and I went for it! And I love the results. Here are a few pics from the work in progress…
Adding the padding.
Adding the material.
The slats became the box-spring (the slats are from Ikea) and the mattress just lays on top.
Nothing to do with the beds, I just like the pic. This is so HIM to me.
I’d say the beds were a hit!
Someone…ahem…was too excited to sleep in his new bed!
So there you have it. We spent a bit more for the beds, but we made them taller and longer (for twin size) and added in a middle wood piece for more stability. But still a ROCKIN’ idea.
So yeah we BUILT beds for the boys! You can see the whole set here…Thanks, Design Mom!
