There is a tradition in my family of quilts. When my sister and I were younger, my mom made us quilts. Probably at the time she thought she was just making something for our beds. Little did she know that these quilts would turn into prized possessions. They did. We loved our quilts. As I grew older, she was nice enough to enlarge the quilt to fit my bigger beds. She patched it for me. She gave it new backing as the original grew thin. My quilt is now queen size, has some of the original material, although much of it has been patched through the years. She even added some space themed sections for JD when we got together.

Then my sister had my niece, and my mom made her a quilt. My niece loves this quilt. It goes everywhere with her. My mom has already had to enlarge it and patch it a few times. That’s when I told her that when I have kids, they’ll need quilts, too. But my mom’s hands are not what they used to be, so when I was pregnant with C, my mom and my sister worked together to create him a quilt. You can see it here. When they heard I was pregnant with Baby #2, they did it again and created for my little R another of the famous quilts. My mom gave it to us when we were visiting a few weeks ago. I love it. They did a fantastic job.

I love that my kids have this quilt with this story behind it. I love that as they grow up, I will be able to cover them up and tell them that they are covered with their Grandma’s and Aunt’s hard work and love. I love that I have one, too, that I can pull out and tell them “…see your Grandma made one for me too…” I hope that they know how much these quilts mean to me and that they keep them to show their families…someday.

I am more then happy to have helped Mom continue the tradition in our family and hopefully our children will see how much the quilts meant to us growing up and theirs will be the same to them!! I still have mine and as a matter of fact still use it everyday as well!! I only hope that we get you involved for when we become …..dare I said it …grandparents and continue this awesome tradition for our grandchildren as well!! Love to all and I am VERY glad that C and R have something that I helped create that they use everyday since I can not be there everyday for them!! Love to all!
