Dear Exxon Gas Station Owners:

I am disturbed by a recent trend that my husband and I have noticed when visiting your gas stations lately. You offer the pumps where you can pull up, swipe your credit card, pump gas, and get a receipt – all without leaving your car. Yet, lately whenever I try to do this, I seem to be sent INSIDE the store to get the receipt. If I had wanted to go into the store to get the receipt, why would I choose to swipe my card at the pump outside? Do you not see how this can make someone angry?? Why offer the pay at the pump option – if you have to go inside ANYWAY? For the record, there are some people that need to be able to pay at the pump – that need to be able to ALSO get their receipt at said pump. I am one of those people. Typically, when refueling I am starting my day and have many things to do and also I have my child with me. To have to go inside to get the receipt means that I have to get the child out from the car seat, take said child inside, typically fight over candy (read: me saying no over said candy) and no time to do all this.

This receipt thing has caused great angst to me and my family. My husband has stopped frequenting certain stations because of this problem. So if you listen to your customers at all, please (for the love of god) keep those damn receipt dispensers full – or don’t offer it to us.

Thanks,
me

The Exxon station I am now boycotting got to that status because, at best, it had receipt paper maybe 1 out of every 5 fill-ups (and that is being generous). Annoying as hell, but I dealt with it because it was a convenient station for me. The final straw was when I went inside to get my receipt and they told me they could give me one because their computer was down. So I asked them to write one out on paper. They said they couldn’t and refused. How in the hell can you NOT write one out?!?

Have you not noticed how they are always on the other side of the road when you need gas? Never on on the right side, always on the left!
